Super Audio CD or SACD is the next generation of audio disc, offering full-range,
uncompressed multi-channel surround sound based on a new type of digital recording
technology called Direct Stream Digital (DSD), as well as superior-to-CD stereo.
As with the step up from mono to stereo, uncompressed surround sound represents
a quantum leap in your musical listening experience.
A Super Audio CD looks like a normal CD and almost all of the SACD titles
we supply contain a CD layer. These are called 'hybrid' discs. This allows you
to play the disc on any existing CD player (hi-fi, walkman, in-car system, etc.),
whilst being able to enjoy the superior SACD quality via a SACD player.

| Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4 are poles apart in their musical style and make a highly interesting pairing for this new release. Symphony No.1 is rooted in the symphonic tradition and has a particular tunefulness reminiscent of Tchaikovsky, whereas Symphony No.4 is highly original and introverted, often being seen as modern and 'cubist' by listeners in the 1890s. |

| In its valedictory release, the world-renowned Tokyo String Quartet presents a pair of well loved chamber works offering a glimpse into the private world of two Czech composers. Antonin Dvorak and Bedrich Smetana - although they were sometimes regarded as musical opposites in their homeland - together they came to represent the quintessential sound of 19th-century Czech music. |
