Dynamic release the world premiere recording on CD of Umberto Giordano’s Marcella. This very rarely performed opera was staged again only recently as the original score was partly destroyed during a bombing raid in World War II. Thankfully the score was restored.

The Ambroise Thomas opera, La Cour de Célimène (Célimène’s Court) is set in 1750 in a château near Paris. The opera deals with a young widowed Countess who has no fewer than 14 suitors. The role was written for the legendary coloratura Marie Miolan-Carvalho, who also created roles in four of Gounod’s operas.

Siren Song, by the British composer Jonathan Dove, is a chamber opera about the longing for love and the susceptibility to deception, which here receives its world premiere recording. Dove is best known for his operas, including Flight, which also received its premiere recording on Chandos and was applauded by the critics.

The annual Ring cycle at Covent Garden in the late 1950s was highly regarded by audiences and critics alike for presenting the leading Wagnerian singers of the day in outstanding performances, most of which at that time were conducted by the much admired Rudolf Kempe. The transfers are being made using high quality source material from Lord Harewood’s collection.
