Crotchet Limited is a family operated business that has been successfully mailing sounds around the world since 1958. Started in the days of the 78's, Crotchet built a reputation for fast and friendly service at very competitive prices.
To-day the family owners of Crotchet are based in Kings Norton, Birmingham, UK. We have supply arrangements with all the major and most of the minor music and media companies representing over 2500 record labels. We are thus in a position to supply the music in a format you are seeking.
It is our aim to provide the highest level of service at the best price we can offer shipping to customers all around the world.
We have listed below further information and terms and conditions to help you shop in the Crotchet. Simply click on any of the sections below to find out more information.
You can order or pre-order an item by clicking the relevant button. This will add the item to your shopping basket and a line by line summary of the basket will appear on the right hand side of the page. You can access your basket at any point by clicking your basket at the top of each page. You can change the quantity of the item in your basket and also remove it. If you wish you can checkout by clicking the checkout button at the top of each page. If you have set up an account then you are able to save your basket(s) and return to them later. You can cancel any item on your order up to 24 hours before despatch. Just send an email to email@example.com quoting “Cancellation” in the subject header and providing details of your order number and the catalogue number of the item you wish to cancel. We will confirm receipt of your email.
The status of an order can be checked in by following the link in the email which confirmed your order. Order Status can also be accessed from each page of Crotchet, either at the top via the “Your Account” or “Check an existing order” link at the bottom. Order Status is updated each weekday at 7pm UK time.
All prices by default are in British Pounds Sterling (GBP £) and exclude shipping. Prices by default include Value Added Tax (VAT) at the current rate of 20%. However if your shipping destination is the Channel Islands or a destination outside of the European Union (EU) then the VAT will be automatically removed. We will bill your payment card in this currency and your card company will convert this to your currency. You are able to change your display currency and shipping destination by following the link at the top of each page.
If you are unable to find an item in our database you can take one of the following two actions. If there are other items you wish to order add them to your basket and complete the checkout. At the bottom of the checkout screen is a box used for messages. Add the details of the items you wish to order to this box and finish your order. We will process your order and confirm by email the price and availablity, of the items you could not find, before adding them to your order.
Alternatively if there are items you could not find and you are not ordering any items then contact email: firstname.lastname@example.org to give us the details of what you are seeking. We will confirm by email the price and availablity.
At checkout we use the CardSave payment gateway to secure your payment card details. CardSave is a member of the WorldPay Group.
Via the CardSave gateway we accept these cards: Visa, Mastercard, Visa Delta, Maestro and Visa Electron. It is our policy to only charge your card at the time of despatch for the amount we are despatching to you. Therefore whenever you place an order on crotchet.co.uk your card details are verified with your bank / card provider for the value of the order. This is not a charge to your card but rather is a pre-authorisation. Whenever we despatch your order this pre-authorisation is converted to an authorisation or charge to your card for the value of the despatch. The pre-authorisation may sometimes be mistakenly viewed as a duplicate charge.
Transactions to your card are completely beyond our control. We only send requests to your bank / card provider through the CardSave payment gateway. Due to this we cannot cancel any pre-authorisations or control the length a particular pre-authorisation is valid.
For your security and to prevent credit card fraud all payment information is checked when submitting an order on our web site. We have invested time and effort into ensuring the highest levels of security possible on all payment card orders. To support this we have implemented Verified by Visa (VbV) and MasterCard SecureCode (SecureCode).
Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode are security programmes from Visa and MasterCard which give you enhanced protection when shopping online. They allow you to create your own personal password, known only to you, for use as an extra security measure each time you use your Visa and MasterCard payment cards to make a future purchase online.
This is intended to give you peace of mind when shopping online. You only need to register with VbV and SecureCode once to create your password for each of your payment cards. Then whenever you shop online using your registered cards you will be asked to enter the relevant password as an additional validation before the order is confirmed.
To register with VbV or SecureCode you need to complete the details at the checkout when your card is being verified. After entering your personal details you will then be asked to create a personal password which will be used to authenticate future orders placed online with your Visa or MasterCard payment cards at participating stores.
The details you enter in this process will be submitted to your card issuer over a secure link; this information will not be held/viewed by Crotchet.
If you have already registered you just need to enter your personal VbV or SecureCode password as indicated at checkout to continue with your purchase.
If you experience any problems submitting an order please check your card details and change if appropriate, especially the expiration or expiry date.
If you prefer not to use this system then please select the option “fax or call payment info” at the checkout.
If you alreay have an account set up with Crotchet and do not wish to use the CardSave payment gateway then please select the option “fax or call payment info” at the checkout.
We also accept payment cheque (check) drawn on a British Bank made payable to Crotchet Ltd for the total amount of the order. Payment must be in British Pounds Sterling (£). In addition you may transfer payment directly to Crotchet. Any costs associated with a transfer must be borne by yourself. Please email: email@example.com for our bank account details.
Finally if you already have an account set up with PayPal then you will find an option to use your existing PayPal account via PayPal Express.
The Crotchet VAT registration number is 798214392. If you have a UK VAT registration number and wish to have a VAT invoice included with your despatch please let us know. If you are located in another part of the EU with a valid VAT registration number and if you let us know this VAT registration number then 20% VAT will be removed at the point of despatch. In these situations VAT will be included when you checkout but for valid VAT registration numbers it will be removed at the time of despatch.

We despatch all items under a contract with the British Post Office (Royal Mail). Under this contract UK items are despatched via First Class Mail and everywhere else via Air Mail. All the EU member countries except the UK are charged at the same rate from 1st February 2011. European countries outside the EU are now included with Rest of the World Zone 1. The zones are effectively determined by this contract with the Royal Mail.
We will endeavour to comply with any specific delivery requests input at the point of order completion. Please use the message box at the end of the checkout to tell us about any special requests you may have.
We attach your despatch note to the front of the parcel and also email (if an email address was provided) a copy to let you know that the items are on their way. In addition to detailing the items in the parcel, the despatch note will give details of items on the order but not included in the despatch. If we part despatch an order you are only charged the shipping calculated at the time of your order.
We aim to despatch complete orders for items in stock within 24 hours during weekdays. For items we obtain directly from a record company or their distributor we aim to despatch your completed order within 7 working days. We may part ship your order if some items are out of stock or delayed. You ARE NOT charged extra shipping if we part ship. The average delivery time from DESPATCH of order is:

Rest of the World Zone 2: 10-20 working days
If your order does not arrive when expected please email: email@example.com. Replacement for items lost by delivery services will be handled on an individual basis. If an item is not received after a reasonable time has elapsed we will replace it at our cost. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
If you are planning to return an item please email: firstname.lastname@example.org for a Returns Authorisation Code before taking any further action. This will speed the processing of any returned items.
If you are not satisfied with your order, simply return the unopened item (with any seals and shrink wrap intact) within 28 days after delivery with the delivery note for a refund of the price of the item. A returned item should be carefully packaged to avoid damage and the package should be clearly marked “RETURNED GOODS” and state the Returns Authorisation Code obtained from Customer Services. If the item has been opened or played then we are unable to accept a return. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
If the product is faulty you must notify Customer Services within 28 days after delivery and obtain a Returns Authorisation Code. A faulty item we will be replaced with another copy when possible. In the event of a faulty item we will send a replacement and you must return the original item to Crotchet within 28 days of our email confirming the despatch of the replacement item. We will pay for the faulty item to be returned to us. Please note the maximum we will pay is 2nd class UK postage or standard airmail outside the UK. If you do not return the original item to us by the end of the 28 days period then we reserve the right make a charge to your payment card for the price of the item and postage. This amount will be no greater than that paid on your original order for this item. If we are unable to despatch a replacement for a faulty item within 28 days of being notified that the item is faulty then we will contact you to determine how much longer you will wait for the replacement to become available or we will refund the purchase price and the cost of return shipping. Refunds will only be made when the returned item has been satisfactorily received by Crotchet. If returning a defective item please state the nature of the fault and timings in order that we can check this out on our equipment before any refund. Crotchet will check all returned faulty items and in the event we find no fault, we reserve the right to re-charge you for the item and recover reasonable costs for testing the fault from you. Refunds will normally be made within 7 days of Crotchet determining an item is faulty. A refund will be made using the same form of payment used on your original order. If the refund does not appear on your Payment Card Statement within a reasonable period please contact Customer Services. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
If an incorrect item has been delivered by our error we will refund the purchase price and also the cost of return shipping (UK 2nd class postage or standard airmail outside the UK) when the returned item has been satisfactorily received by Crotchet. Refunds will be made either in the form of a credit to your account against which future purchases may be made or as a credit to your Payment Card. The customer has the choice of the refund method. In the event you choose a refund, this will be made within 7 days using the same form of payment used on your original order. If the refund does not appear on your Payment Card Statement within a reasonable period please contact Customer Services. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
We recommend that you obtain proof of postage when returning goods as returned items not received by our Returns Department cannot be refunded.
You DO NOT need an account to order from Crotchet. If you are a new customer to Crotchet by creating an account you will be able to shop faster, maintain wishlists, save your basket to return to it later, keep up to date on the status of your order and keep track of the orders you have previously made.
If you do not wish to set up and account you can proceed to Checkout and place your order. By choosing this option none of your user information will be kept in our records and you will not be able to review your order status, or keep track of your previous orders.
Follow the “your account” link located in the top right of each page to set up a new account. To set up an account you will need to decide upon your user name and password. We recommend that both of these should be easy to remember.

ALL customer information is treated in the STRICTEST CONFIDENCE. We DO NOT give or sell customer information to ANY third party companies. Your email address is requested at checkout. This is used to confirm your order and enable you to access Order Status. We send a monthly email detailing selected new releases and special offers. You can select whether or not to receive the monthly email at the time of Check Out. Following receipt of a monthly email you can if you wish remove yourself from the list by following the instructions in that email.
Crotchet uses a DigiCert “Extended Validation” SSL Web Server Certificate to offer secure communications by encrypting all data to and from the site. When you connect to a secure web server such as https://www.crotchet.co.uk your browser asks that server to authenticate itself. This authentication is quite a complex process involving public keys, private keys and a digital certificate. The certificate tells you that DigiCert CA has agreed that the server belongs to the company it claims to belong to. A valid certificate means that you can have confidence that you are sending information to the right place. DigiCert has checked and verified the company registration documents and the site's registered domain name. This information is included in the SSL certificate that Digicert issues. Click the SSL Seal at the top or bottom of each page for details of Crotchet's certificate. You can also verify this information by clicking the padlock symbol when entering the Checkout.
We reserve the right to cancel orders at our discretion. If we cancel an order or part order, it will be without charge to you for the part cancelled.
Crotchet does not represent or warrant that the material comprised on this site is completely accurate or up to date and Crotchet should have no liability in respect of such material or for any use of any such information by any person. Any information regarding availability is subject to record company stock levels.
