About the conductor Jiri Belohlavek

Jiri Belohlavek is one of today's leading Czech conductors. Each of his artistic creations is built upon a detailed and intimate knowledge of the musical work in question, which Belohlávek then reinforces with thorough and punctilious preparation of his ensembles and with his unusually rich perception of orchestral sound colour. A graduate of the Prague Conservatory and of the same city's Academy of Music, Belohlavek went on to continue his studies with Sergiu Celibidache. Jiri Belohlavek has conducted the major Czech orchestras and has enjoyed success as guest conductor with the world's greatest orchestras. In 2006 he was appointed Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
