About the artist Veronique Gens

Now recognised as one of the world’s finest Mozart singers, Véronique Gens established her international reputation in the baroque repertoire, specialising in the music of Charpentier, Rameau and Lully. She made her debut with Les Arts Florissants and William Christie, and has performed regularly with Christie and with Marc Minkowski, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Christophe Rousset and Gérard Lesne. In 1999 Véronique Gens was elected Singer of the Year by the French ‘Victoires de la Musique’. She has made over sixty recordings, many of them winning international prizes. Her numerous recordings for Virgin Classics include music by Brossard, Galuppi, Pergolesi and Scarlatti with Gérard Lesne, Scarlatti’s La santissima trinità with Fabio Biondi, Orfeo with Emmanuelle Haïm, Don Giovanni with Daniel Harding, a recital of Mozart arias with Ivor Bolton, Berlioz’ Les Nuits d’été with Louis Langrée, and Nuit d’étoiles, a recital of French mélodies by Fauré, Debussy and Poulenc. Her most recent disc Tragédiennes, with Christophe Rousset, celebrates heroines of French opera from Lully to Gluck, which Gramophone singled out as Best Recital of the year 2006.
