About the artist Auryn Qt

The Auryn Qt, founded in 1981 and having studied with the Amadeus Qt and Guarneri Qt has developed into one of the most important ensembles of its generation, touring extensively and performing regularly in the major concert halls of the world. The spirit of friendship has been the driving force behind the Auryn Qt – ‘its members interact with a sensitivity that seems almost telepathic’ - The Washington Post. The Auryn Qt’s recording (on Tacet) of all the Beethoven quartets was released to overwhelmingly ecstatic reviews: ‘...At times, the Auryn performances seem so close to what one sees unfolding on the printed score that it is possible to believe you are hearing directly what Beethoven had in mind. Perhaps only the Busch Quartet had this kind of liberating vision.’ - The Gramophone. Following on from that success, sees the Auryns recording the complete Haydn quartets, also on Tacet (yes, all 68 of them!), to commemorate the bicentenary of the composer´s death. The first reactions are extremely positive : ‘There is no shortage of great Haydn quartet recordings, though few combine elegance and energy with such richly magesterial drama as this one, and none is more superbly recorded ‘ - AudiophileAudition.com, on the op.74, 12-Feb-2009. They have won numerous prizes for their recordings, including the Diapason d'Or for the recording of the complete Schubert quartet cycle. TACET released in 2004 four volumes of the complete Beethoven quartet literature. For volume I the Qt was awarded the 2004 Classical Internet Award in the category of Chamber Music. And Gramophone concludes its review of volumes III and IV: ‘There is no shortage of great and famous Beethoven cycles, but there are no performances such as these. For me, this is now the set to beat’. After the Beethoven, the quartet is now busy recording the complete Haydn quartets. Of its recent Brahms release, Fono Forum said: ‘one of the most beautiful Brahms recordings in the whole catalogue. It just won the 2009 Echo Klassik prize for the first of its Haydn recordings. They have also won 1st Prize, 2nd Annual International String Quartet Competition, Portsmouth, England, 1982 - 1st Prize, ARD (Association of Public Broadcasting Corporations in Germany), Munich, 1982 - 1st Prize, European Broadcasting Competition, Bratislava, CSK, 1987.
