About the artist Andreas Scholl

Andreas Scholl was born near Wiesbaden (Germany) in 1967. At the age of seven he was enrolled in the “Kiedricher Chorbuben”. With this choir he sang a virtually daily diet of Bach, Schütz, Buxtehude, Lassus, an apprenticeship comparable with that of such singers as Theo Adam, Peter Schreier and Olaf Bär in the Dresden Kreuzchor. From 1987 to 1993 Scholl studied singing with Richard Levitt and René Jacobs at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. His first recital in 1993 at the Théâtre Grévin in Paris, when he replaced his teacher and mentor René Jacobs at a moment’s notice, was a triumphant success, and launched his career at a single stroke. He has quickly established himself as one of the leading countertenors of the day. Andreas Scholl has already released many recital CDs and taken part in a multitude of other recordings, which have won several international awards.
