About the artist Alessio Bax

Bax graduated at the record age of fourteen from the Conservatory of Bari, in his native Italy, with top honours. He studied with Angela Montemurro in Italy and Francois-Joel Thiollier in France. For four consecutive years, he attended the prestigious Chigiana Academy in Siena, from whom he received an Honours Diploma. Soon after graduating from the Conservatory in Bari, he gained a scholarship to study with the Spanish maestro, Joaquín Achúcarro, at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Bax has since obtained an Artist Certificate and a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the same university and is now on the teaching faculty of the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University. First Prize winner in the universally acknowledged Leeds International Pianoforte Competition in September 2000, Alessio Bax is already established as an accomplished performer throughout the world. His winning performance in Leeds of Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle touched audience and jury alike. In 1997, when he was not yet twenty, Bax was unanimously awarded the First Prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, Japan, which started his well recognized career in that country and made Japan a very frequent destination in his tours. Since winning Leeds, Bax has performed in recital in London's International Piano Series (Queen Elizabeth Hall) as well as in Hanover, Munich (Herkulessaal), Paris, Tokyo (Kioi Hall) and with the Houston Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the London Philharmonic, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
