Background: This CD was wholly conceived by Salvatore Sciarrino, who decided the choice and order of the pieces and produced the recording sessions. He starts with an elaboration for solo flute based on JS Bach's Toccata and Fugue for organ. Next, the Prometeo Qt leads us to Salvatore Sciarrino's favourite hunting ground for his 'elaborations', the compositions of Domenico Scarlatti. This is a gentle preparation for the next story, a diffraction of the music of Gesualdo, in which we experience, with a popular singer, percussion, broken windows and a saxophone quartet, The Dreadful and Terrible Story of the Prince of Venosa and the Lovely Maria. Finally, we return to the world that served as a benchmark for Domenico, that of his father, the divine Alessandro Scarlatti, who possessed the gift of piercing his hearers with just two notes. 'Stories of other stories' is a voyage of discovery… |
