Background: This CD presents familiar American songs of the west arranged and composed by Fox Guion Ives Jackson and others. They have evolved from life on the trail and ranch with its hardships and joys. Some of the melodies have roots in Irish Scottish English and other tunes brought to the plains of America by immigrants.

Others have been 'invented' by the cowboys themselves as they sat around the campfire rode 'up the trail' on a cattle drive from Texas to Kansas or sang the cattle to sleep while night-herding. Perhaps these songs coming direct from the cowboy's experience will afford a truer conception of what he really was than is possessed by those who know him only through highly coloured romances.
