Background: As part of a major new series of recordings for Naive the internationally-acclaimed conductor Mark Minkowski here directs selections from Bizet’s incidental music for 'L’Arlesiénne', including some pieces in a version by the conductor himself. The disc also includes music from the opera 'Carmen', and is played by Les Musiciens de Louvre, the orchestral group that performed some of this music with Minkowski at the 2007 Proms.

The CD is part of a package that includes a120-page booklet with texts by Alphonse Daudet, Marc Minkowski, Gérard Condé, Lesley Wright and a wide selection of painting reproductions by Van Gogh, Gauguin, Francis Bacon, Joan Mitchell. This aims to offer a complete vision of the artistic inspiration that the aria of Provence gave to the composer of these wonderful pieces.
