Background: A highly thought of and prominent composer in his lifetime, Romanus Weichlein (1652-1706) fell into obscurity after his death. However, all his music survived in the library of the monastery at Lambach in Austria. In recent years the glorious music of this composer is being reassessed and performed more often. The mass performed on this CD dates from 1687 and uses authentic forces of mens and boys voices, Highly recommended. |
