Background: A brilliant debut of a new Czech conductor in the tradition of Ancerl and Talich. The rapidly developing conducting career of Jakub Hruša shows that he is an artistic personaolity with a temendous future and these recordings of Dvorák with the Prague Philharmonia provide an astonishing listening experience. Hruša graduated with honours from the Academy of Performing Arts, Prague in 2004 with a remarkable account of Suk’s Asrael Symphony with the Prague Radio Orchestra, conducted entirely from memory. Whilst at the Academy, he studied with many of the major Czech conductors including Jirí Belohlávek, Radomil Eliska and Leoš Svárovský. At the end of 2004 he took over two significant main season cancellations: the first with the Prague Symphony Orchestra and then with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra replacing an indisposed Claus Peter Flor. He received unanimous critical acclaim in the Czech press for both performances and has since been re-invited to the main seasons for both orchestras. In addition during the 2004-5 season Hruša performed with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Prague Spring Festival, and had main season debuts with the Prague Philharmonia, Slovak Philharmonic, the Brno State Philharmonic and the Bohuslav Martinu Orchestra Zlin. Following these impressive debuts he was appointed Principal Conductor of the Prague Philharmonia. Most recently he was appointed Young Associate Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France - the deciding judge's unanimous choice. |
