Background: The basis of the present recording is a manuscript held in the National Library in Vienna under the archive number 18761. This manuscript is at least ten years earlier than most of the main Weissian sources, its music is unlike anything else in the Weiss oeuvre. Stylistically, rather antiquated, the dances retain the brevity and loose harmonic structures typical of the previous generation of lute composers.
