Composer:
Georg Philipp Telemann

Artist(s):
Max van Egmond
Wond'rous Machine

Background: Telemann went to Hamburg in 1721 where he immediately founded a Collegium Musicum: since the beginning of XVIIth Century, the sort of amateur music unions of students or noblemen and citizens by the name of Collegium Musicum were common in large parts of Lutheran Reformist areas.

Telemann understood it as an important means to reach an ever-growing circle of music consumers. For the same reason he started to devote himself with great passion and great energy to printing. The first part of the collection 'Der harmonische Gottesdienst', a cycle of cantatas, appeared in 1725.

Although their technical difficulties are relatively low, they are really beautiful, rich in effects and atmosphere.

The group Wond'rous Machine was founded in 2000 and comprises some of the major names on the current Italian early music scene who have as soloists with some of the foremost ensemble in Europe.
