Background: Giuseppe Torelli is famous as having been the 'inventor' of the concerto. Op.5 consists of two series of alternating pieces, 'symphonies' (in fact, sonate a tre) and 'concertos'. Torelli had to his credit at least eight printed collections of chamber music and concertos, a hundred or so instrumental compositions, several cantatas and arias and an oratorio. Beautiful Italian music, well-played and well-recorded.
