Background: Noel Mewton-Wood and Sir Thomas Beecham combine on this restored recording of Busoni's Piano Concerto op.39. The Concerto, because of its length and technical difficulty, is a challenge to the greatest of pianists and conductors. However it is a challenge that Mewton-Wood and Beecham surmount in this superb recording. 'The sound, considering its age and provenance, is excellent, and I cannot urge this immensely important release on readers too strongly. It is, I am happy to say, one of the greatest recordings I have ever heard, and proof of what the gramophone can still do to enhance our knowledge and experience of our art.'
