Background: Kirsten Flagstad was not always comfortable with her conductors, but she had the utmost respect for Sir Thomas Beecham. She joined the conductor for the last time in Dec-1952 with the RPO. On this occasion she sang the Wesendonck Lieder recorded here, Beecham conducting the complete work for the only time in his long career.
