Background: In Jean Langlais’ centennial year his former pupil George C Baker fulfils a long held ambition to record a selection of the composer’s works. Langlais himself was keen that George should do this but did not live to see the project come to fruition. The instrument chosen is the gorgeous organ at Saint-Sernin de Toulouse, one of Langlais’ favourites and the programme, which includes two pieces dedicated to the organist himself, presents a variety of moods and themes: from simple to complex, from softest to loudest, from slow to fast, from monophonic to polyphonic. |
