Background: Nearly 100 years after its premiere in 1909, tenor,Andrew Kennedy celebrates one of Britain’s most loved composers,Vaughan Williams, performing his innovative work, On Wenlock Edge. Written for tenor, piano and string quartet Williams explored a field of chamber combination which had not been previously done by an English composer. Followed by Ludlow & Teme and Songs of Eternity & Sorrow op.36 by Ivor Gurney & Ian Venables respectively, this disc provides the listener with renditions from three great English composers ranging from the late 19th century to the present day, all with words by AE Housman, performed beautifully by Andrew Kennedy, Simon Crawford-Phillips & the Dante Qt. |
