Background: The reign of Queen Elizabeth I was a golden age for the arts. She was the fourth monarch to site on the throne on Thomas Tallis' lifetime. Tallis has witnessed the wholesale destruction of much of England's church music tradition, however he met the challenges of a new liturgy with the imaginative force of a man have his age.

This recording presents Tallis' Elizabethan Latin motets and concludes with the mighty occasional piece, the forty voice motet Spem in alium.
