Background: Musical collaborations between vocalists and instrumentalists are fairly common in jazz. One can count on merely half a hand, however, those collaborations where the vocalist and jazzman could support, compliment and embellish the other's thoughts as if second nature. The list would include Billie Holiday/Lester Young, Etta Jones/Houston Person and perhaps one or two more. To that we must add Irene Reid and Charles Earland. This, the third joint outing for the duo, finds them in a series of tunes tailor made for them both. |
