Background: Peterson-Berger, who also found fame as a music critic and conductor, has a catalogue comprising symphonies, operas and chamber music. He lived in the countryside in the far north of Sweden and the surroundings with its big mountains and beautiful lakes greatly inspired him. Indeed this disc includes many pieces that are, in one way or another, influenced by Swedish folk music, including the title track Last Summer, composed in 1903, and a glance at the names of any of the pieces in this collection reveals Peterson-Berger's love of nature.
