Background: Sir John Barbirolli conducted the works of many and varied composers on his visits to Berlin, and some of these were new to the BPO. But it was his championship of Mahler's music which made the biggest impact. No commercial recordings were made, but fortunately there were three live recordings of Mahler with the BPO including this previously unreleased performance.
