Background: Gérard Souzay was considered the leading exponent of mélodies in the postwar era. Early in his career, Souzay evinced an interest in music of the Baroque era. Much of the material he recorded at that time, 1953, is included on this CD. It includes a disc of music by Couperin and some of his contemporaries, and traditional French airs arranged for modern performance.
