Background: Both Charles Villiers Stanford and Hubert H Parry occupy a central place in late 19th Century British composing. Their influence on later composers can be seen from Elgar to Britten to Ades and beyond. This recording celebrates their sacred works. The Choir of Christ's College Cambridge combine the choral excellence one would expect from one of the best chapel choirs in the UK with a unique perspective of the pieces; Stanford was one of the most celebrated of this choir's directors. |
