Background: Dinah Shore was one of the first pop singers who became a star in her own right. This was perhaps because her voice was too soft to sing with a big band. She became very popular with her recordings and radio performances, so in 1943 she was signed to host her own radio show with great success. Her first movie was also released that same year. With World War II well in progress, Dinah also became a popular favourite with the troops and she did many Command Performances for the armed forces radio network. She became a radio, television and pop personality and was loved by millions up until she passed away after a short spell with cancer in 1994. |
