Background: This SACD consists of works by Spanish and Latin American composers. The first three works are by the Spanish guitarist and composer Francisco Tarrega, including the famous tremolo etude Recuerdos de la Alhambra and Capricho arabe. Tarrega was the first person to transcribe piano music by Isaac Albeniz for the guitar, although it should be noted that Albeniz often used the guitar as a model for his compositions. The SACD ends with two of the world's favourite tangos - the Argentine composer Angel Villoldo's El Choclo and La Cumparsita by Matos Rodriguez from Uruguay. Tangos require a highly dynamic playing style if they are to have the right character so here the classically trained guitarist must put aside his traditional technique. Juan Dominguez, one of the leading exponents of the tango, has made a dynamic arrangement bringing new life to the crown-jewel of the tango, La Cumparsita. CATALOGUE NR: PRSACD2030 |
