Background: Fritz Busch and the Staatskapelle Dresden had a relationship more fraught with emotion than any other in musical history. His first concert with the Staatskapelle in December 1920 was astounding and the enthusiasm and optimism about the future was shared by both conductor and orchestra. Twelve years later, after a disastrous Nazi-organised disruption of a performance, he declared that his future with the ensemble was 'all over'. Both conductor and orchestra were deeply saddened by the events and felt that the glorious sound and wonderful enthusiasm they shared could not be reignited. The inspiring and electrifying tension created on both sides in the 'early days' by a truly fundamental artistic experience led to a collaboration that went down in Dresden's musical history as the 'Busch era'. Profil are delighted to be able to present, for the first time the complete Dresden recordings in a 3 CD box set with bonus DVD. |
