Background: The great Russian conductor Rudolf Barshai, who brings together Cyprien Katsaris and the excellent Slovenian Philharmonic in a live interpretation of Beethoven's Concerto No.3. In addition to the famous cadenza written by the composer for the first movement, Cyprien Katsaris offers as an 'encore' a rarity: the cadenza by Franz Liszt. This CD also contains live recordings of the two magnificent Sonatas in A flat major by the Master from Bonn: the deeply spiritual opus 110 and opus 26, with its famous Marcia funebre sulla morte d'un eroe.
