Background: Dvorak's ever popular masterpiece, the Symphony No.9, is played with passion and commitment by the Czech Philharmonic. It is coupled with the lesser known Slovak Suite by Novak. Novak had studied law and philosophy but Dvorak was impressed by the young man's music and his rebellious original nature. With Dvorak's support Novak travelled in 1896 to Slovakia and it was whilst on this journey that Novak made the first sketches that were to become his 'Slovak Suite'. |
