Background: Ondine release the world-premiere recording of John Corigliano's Pulitzer Prize-winning Symphony No.2 for string orchestra, which had its premiere in 2000. The piece is paired with Corigliano's The Mannheim Rocket, commissioned by Germany's Mannheim Orchestra, also premiered in 2000.

Corigliano's Symphony No.2, an expansion and rewriting of his String Quartet (1995), was commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra for the centennial of its much admired Symphony Hall.
