Background: Mario Lanza was an enormously popular star in film musicals and on records during the 1950s, with an amazing operatic tenor voice. He combined singing classical opera with dramatic versions of the hits of the day including standards such as 'The Loveliest Night Of The Year' and 'Without A Song'. Success clearly went to Lanza's head, and he became difficult to work with, and began to enjoy the excesses of life, becoming obese in size. He died relatively young in 1958, when his excessive lifestyle finally caught up with him! All of his most popular recordings are available on this one complete double CD. |
