Background: Holloway's romantic Violin Concerto, inspired by the glowing colours of the Tiffany stained-glass windows of poet John Ashbery's New York mansion, is built around a paraphrase of a song by Faure. Coupled with it on this recording is his Horn Concerto; the dark opening movement contrasts with the lighter neo-classicism of the finale.
