Background: It took time for Borodin to write his symphonies. No.1 took five years and had its first performance in 1869. His second symphony was premiered in 1877 also after a gestation period of 5 years. These performances are conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov and played as only a Russian orchestra could play these pieces. |
