Background: The major work presented on this CD is the piano version of Mahler's great cycle 'Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen'. Pianist, Claudius Tanski, studied Mahler's own Welte-Mignon transcriptions of this work and played a Steinway D concert grand dated 1901. The SACD recording produces a clear intimate sound and greatly enhances the already assured performance by Tanski.
