Background: George Onslow had English and French aristocratic blood in his veins, which meant that he led an unsettled life during the revolutionary years. Born in the Auvergne, he soon had to flee to Hamburg with his parents. He studied in London and Vienna and returned to Paris in the early 19th century as an admired pianist and composer.
