Background: Siegbert Rampe and his Nova Stavaganza ensemble present orchestral and chamber music by Johann Melchior Molter. The ensemble's precise attention to performance practice details combines with MDG's typical recording philosophy to guarantee a truly impressive sound. Molter is believed to have trained with the Eisenach court orchestra as a city wait and violinist. On scholarship-funded journeys to Italy he was fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of composers like Antonio Vivaldi and Giuseppe Tartini and to learn their composing techniques. Molter's style is characterised in particular by his expressive and cantabile melodies. Molter's stylistic transformation from late Baroque to early stages of Viennese Classicism is impressively demonstrated in this recording. |
