Background: This is the second of three 4CD boxsets to be released as part of the Orchestra's 75th Anniversary in 2007, and covers the years which solidified and established the Orchestra as one of the World's greatest. It covers the years 1962 - 1982, and encompasses three vital conductors in the Orchestra's history: Sir John Pritchard, who introduced the Orchestra to opera and who conducted its first Glyndebourne performances in 1964; Bernard Haitink presiding over some of the Orchestra's most exciting years and Georg Solti, whose impact on the podium in the 20th century is unsurpassed. |
