Background: So successful were Handel's oratorios, a genre he created, that after his death composers and close associates found it lucrative to extract 'new' oratorios from his original manuscripts. This CD is the first recording of one of these masterpieces, among the earliest attempts to quench the insatiable thirst for yet more Handel, compiled by Edward Toms c1768. It presents a pasticcio based on treasures in the British Library, long thought to be of Handel's own creation. |
