Background: Backhaus was the first pianist to record the complete Chopin etudes in 1928; this is still widely regarded as one of the best recordings of these works. Despite his incredibly long career (Backhaus performed regularly until a week before his death) Backhaus recorded the Complete Etudes only once, and this new digital remastering of that recording conveys with incredible clarity the neat, clean and powerful sound of the great German pianist.
