Background: Jascha Heifetz owes a lot of his success to his performances of short, virtuosic pieces. So much so, he often dedicated the entire second half of his recitals to them, disregarding more serious works such as Beethoven and Brahms Sonatas. Heifetz only recorded Saint-Saëns’s Introduction & Rondò Capriccioso twice, once in 1935 and again in 1951. The latter, contained in the present CD, is considered by far the better one.
