Background: Early in their career, the Belgian Quatuor Danel had the opportunity to study the Shostakovich cycle over a period of 3 months at Aldeburgh, with the Borodin Qt as their mentors. Since then, these quartets have accompanied their evolution, including in 1993 the first prize in the International Competition named after the composer.

So these superb new recordings, made between 2001 and 2005 alongside Bavarian Radio concerts, and now released on 5 CDs to celebrate the composer's centenary, have the true stamp of authenticity.
