Background: The reissue of this classic from 1969. More related to free jazz than the experimental musings of the Spontaneous Music Ensemble (the other working band for Stevens and Watts at that time) Prayer For Peace is as much atmospheric as free though it does have its wilder passages. Gorgeous alto work by Watts and delicate skittering percussion from Stevens. Clyne and Guy (on one track) underpin the music with some solidly dependable bass. This record could be a blueprint for 'the jazz trio' and the band were indeed highly influential all the more vital then that this recording is now available for the first time on CD.
