Background: These works first saw the light of day in 1585, in Rome, as part of a monumental work; the Officiam Hebdomadae Sanctae, in which Victoria included music for the whole of Holy Week. They are divided into three groups of six responsories, dedicated respectively to Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. |
