Background: Manuel Garcia was, in the nineteenth century, the most international figure on the Spanish musical scene. He was a singer, a composer and a highly respected teacher. The operas presented on this disc are the jewels of Garcia's output. He specialised in the composition of these 'little operettas'.

Two soloists with some dialogue and sumptuous orchestration typify these pieces. Excellent performances by Ruth Rosique and Mark Tucker under the baton of Andrea Marcon, show just how delightful these compositions are and how sadly neglected.
