Background: Kenneth Smith and Paul Rhodes here present a wonderful disc of English flute & piano music. It is believed that the pieces from Havelock Nelson and Thomas Dunhill are first recordings. The Alwyn Sonata is from a manuscript provided by the Cambridge University Library, and is also thought to be the first recording of this version. Kenneth Leighton’s flute sonata is also little known.
