Background: Born in Frasnes-les-Gosselies, near Charleroi in 1871, Adolphe Biarent underwent a thorough and leisurely training at the Brussels Conservatoire, then at the Gent Conservatoire and finally as a private pupil of Martin Lunssens. His symphonic works are clearly influenced by Brahms but he always maintains an individual voice.
