Background: Ethica ordine geometrico demonstrata by Benedict de Spinoza (1632-1677) on which this CD is based is more than just a philosophical text. The work conveys a grand vision of the word not as it actually is but as it could be if only the original plan of creation were understood. A curious combination of irrational subject matter and a strictly formalistic methodology which characterizes the works of Spinoza also characterizes Joep Franssens' work. It will come as no surprise therefore that the texts taken from the Ethica combines with the music to form a unity of both subject matter and methodology.
