Background: The Viennese composer Hans Gál was born in 1890 and studied at the University of Vienna. He was Jewish and emigrated to Great Britain in 1938, living under great difficulty until he eventually became a professor of music at the University of Edinburgh. His numerous works include 110 opus numbers and many without covering all musical genres.
